World Mission
The focus of the St. Luke's World Mission Committee is to increase the awareness of the physical and spiritual needs of those who are needy, as we encourage and support those called to the mission field through prayer and financial support.
The Texas Water Mission is the new organization which will coordinate the activities of the Honduras Water Ministry as well as the new effort to begin drilling operations in Mexico. A team consists of people working with drilling, teaching hygiene, evangelism, and providing classes for English as a second language.
Mercy Ships St. Luke's missionaries, Dr. Keith Chapman and his wife, Kristin, are missionariesfor Mercy Ships, a global charity operating a fleet of hospital ships in developing nations since 1978. The crew of Mercy Ships bring hope and healing to the poor by providing free medical, dental, and community development services.
Mission to Mexico St. Luke's Church has been involved with the Anglican Diocese of Northern Mexico for the past twenty years. Our major endeavor is the renovation of the church office at San Pablo, Monterrey. San Pablo is the most active parish in the Monterrey area.
Other world mission projects supported by St. Luke's include: Women's Center in Nebbi, Uganda, Sharing Our Ministries Abroad, Rock the World, The Church of the Province of Southern Africa, and mission efforts in Russia and Belarus.
Local Outreach Opportunities
Christian Assistance Ministries St. Luke’s is a member church of the Christian Assistance Ministries, which ministry provides temporary assistance to people in a crisis situation who have an immediate need for food, clothing, emergency financial aid, laundry facilities, and a day shelter for the unemployable homeless.Volunteers are needed each day in many areas.
Good Samaritan Center Sponsored by the Diocese of West Texas, this Westside facility has been the primary resource for its neighborhood since 1951. Located in the heart of San Antonio’s most violent sector, the center has been the catalyst for positive change and direction in a community desperate for hope and healing. The neighborhood center offers programs for children from six weeks to five years old, a variety of programs for children at risk to drug and gang activity and a full range of adult and senior programs.
Kairos Prison Ministry Kairos prison ministry brings Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families, and those who work with them and assists them in the transition of becoming productive citizens. St. Luke’s supports the Kairos ministry by baking cookies for an annual three-day Christian experience, held at the Connally Unit in Kenedy, Texas, where Christ’s love is shared with those behind bars.
Habitat for Humanity In 1994, the Diocese of West Texas and Habitat for Humanity International began a cooperative program to provide affordable homes for low-income families in the diocese. The parish of St. Luke’s has partnered with the diocese as well as other churches to help build homes with Habitat for Humanity. No prior experience is needed. Build days are usually scheduled for the fall and spring.
